UW System administrators released a memo regarding immediate cost containment measures for UW System Administration. The restrictions do not apply to UW–Madison.
Darrell Bazzell, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, says UW-Madison is taking a cautious approach to spending in the face of a challenging budget picture. He noted that Deans and Directors have gone through a budget-reduction exercise and are being prudent in their review of all spending requests.
Bazzell says UW-Madison officials are carefully balancing measures to contain costs with the need to continue the university’s mission.
“For example, banning out-of-state travel for all UW–Madison employees would significantly hamper the ability of faculty and researchers to do collaborative work in other states,’ he says. “These collaborations result in millions of dollars in returned investment to Wisconsin’s economy.”
