Statement of Interim Chancellor Eric Wilcots on Universities of Wisconsin budget request

The 2027-29 budget proposal approved by the Board of Regents prioritizes Wisconsin’s workforce, enhances support and infrastructure to advance vital health care research and education throughout the state and maintains the Universities of Wisconsin’s commitment to providing pathways to higher education for veterans. The budget proposal will advance life-saving discoveries and improve access to health care across Wisconsin and build our state’s workforce and next generation of business leaders.

The budget request again proposes critical investment in UW-Madison’s infrastructure by finally demolishing the aging Humanities Building, updating and creating modern learning spaces in historic Music Hall, and expanding our University Housing capacity to support our students and growing demand for a UW-Madison degree.

We also support continued investment in faculty and staff compensation in a competitive job market.

I look forward to working with colleagues at the Universities of Wisconsin, state business and industry partners, legislative leaders and Wisconsin’s next governor to ensure the important proposals in the budget request move forward.
