Reaction to proposed budget repair bill

As the public hearing on Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget repair bill gets under way in the Capitol, many groups on campus are responding to the provisions that affect UW-Madison employees and students.

On Sunday, the Associated Students of Madison voted unanimously to oppose the budget repair bill, while the Academic Staff Assembly Monday passed a resolution opposing the budget repair bill. There is also a website detailing the effect of the budget repair bill on academic staff.

The UW-Madison College Republicans have posted a message in support of Walker’s plan. Judith Burstyn, professor of chemistry, chair of the University Committee of and chair of the Board of Directors of PROFS, representing the UW-Madison faculty, has also distributed her testimony from the public hearing. For those with questions about how the budget process will proceed, UW Extension put together a list of next steps.
